Charity Tournament to Help Children With Special Needs
By theParklander / April 1, 2016
Parkland Buddy Sports, which provides quality sports programming for children and young adults with special needs, is looking to help itself. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization will host its Third Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, May 14th, at the Boca Lago Country Club in Boca Raton.
"Parkland Buddy Sports has been providing an incredible service for our children with special needs, their families, and our community since we started with Soccer Buddies in 2002," Parkland Buddy Sports President Bob Mayersohn said. "We are hopeful that the proceeds raised from this tournament will help our organization continue to grow and sustain our fee-free programming. Thank you to our sponsors, supporters, and golfers for joining us in donating time and resources in support of our community, our program, and our kids."
The Golf Committee is headed by Parkland Buddy Sports board member Scott Savoie and volunteer Gayle Munro. Assistance will be given by all members of the Parkland Buddy Sports Board of Directors.
The emphasis of Parkland Buddy Sports is on having fun, making friends, and realizing children's potential in an inclusive, empowering, challenging, and caring environment. The structure of a shared experience allows the players and volunteers to create an environment without physical, social, and cultural barriers, where there are no limits. The sports programs consist of a weekly activity and/or games. Each player is paired for the entire season with their own Buddy, who in most instances is a student volunteer for an entire season. Through the shared encouragement of all the Buddies, the players with special needs and their families are able to experience the joys of their athletic endeavors.
The 1:30pm shotgun start golf tournament will consist of up to 144 players in teams of four. The cost per player is $125, which includes golf, tournament prizes, gift bag, and a buffet dinner with carving stations at Boca Lago's VIP dining room. Specialty holes will be available, including a hole-in-one par 3, where golfers will be shooting for amazing prizes. Other specialty holes will be available. Mulligan cards will be on hand for players to purchase.
Sponsorship opportunities may be obtained at several monetary levels ranging from $500 to $5,000. T-Sign hole sponsorships are also available for $100 per hole. The Parklander is the official magazine sponsor.
Trophies and prizes will be awarded to the top teams. A silent auction and raffle will include airline tickets, hotel stays, signed sports memorabilia, Walt Disney World tickets, attraction tickets, restaurant gift certificates and an array of incredible prizes.
