I
am proud to announce that two
years after we first broke ground on
the new Municipal Complex, the City
of Coral Springs celebrated the official
ribbon cutting on May 24, 2018. It
was a well-attended and symbolic
event that marks a new chapter for
our thriving City.
Already we have experienced major, positive growth with the
sale of the Financial Plaza to a private developer, who plans to
build a hotel, restaurants, and retail shops. Our new Municipal
Complex will also serve as the backdrop to exciting City
events like Artoberfest, Downtown in December, Unplugged,
and Savor the Notes. These events are meant to attract more
businesses to the downtown area and provide residents with
a place to enjoy memorable moments.
My fellow elected officials and City staff pride ourselves
on running a cost-effective, well-run government that is
connected to our residents. The new Municipal Complex
allows us to continue to do an even better job of providing
that level of service.
With the Chamber of Commerce, local elected officials, and
City services under one roof, we are now a “One Stop Shop,”
and open for business.
July 10, 2018 will mark our City’s 55th Anniversary. What
started off as acres of bean fields turned into a master
planned community, which attracted more than 125,000
residents, who proudly call Coral Springs home. With so
much development and business growth taking place, we will
always remember what is most important – where our City
began and where it is headed in the future – ensuring it always
remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
I remind residents that we are in the midst of South Florida’s
rainy season. In the past months we were hit with heavy
rains – resulting in local flooding. Our team of dedicated Public
Works professionals consistently ensures storm drains are
clear of waste and debris. Regardless of their efforts, heavy
downpours can burden any drainage system. Those storms
proved flooding can occur anywhere, even if the National
Flood Insurance Program does not designate your property
as being in a flood zone. We urge you to review insurance
coverage to decide the best options to mitigate any type of
severe weather. The City was prepared for Hurricane Irma last
year and better prepared this year – we encourage you to do
the same. Review your storm plans and make sure to stock
up on necessary emergency supplies.
