S
chool is out and summer is
here. We have some wonderful
summer sports leagues in our
City, as well as programs at the Coral
Springs Gymnasium. I encourage you
to check out the Summer Fun Guide
if you haven’t already. It is available
online at CoralSprings.org/summerfun.
Hurricane season is here and it’s important for our residents to
be prepared. I encourage you to like our Facebook Page and
follow us on Twitter to stay informed with all the latest updates
before, during, or after a storm. Visit CoralSprings.org/-
emergency for many more resources, including information on
how to sign up for CodeRed to receive emergency notifications.
Join us for the City’s Fourth of July celebration at Mullins
Park. It promises to be an evening of dazzling fireworks and
entertainment for the entire family. Residents are encouraged to
attend the celebration on Wednesday, July 4, at 6pm and enjoy
games, bounce houses, food, and entertainment. The fireworks
display will begin at 9pm. The event is free, but there will be fees
for food. Parking will be available for $3 at the Coral Springs
Gymnasium for early arrivers and also at the main Mullins Park/
Center for the Arts parking lot. No pets or alcoholic beverages
are allowed in the park and Coral Springs Police will confiscate
personal fireworks. Mullins Park is at 10150 Ben Geiger Drive.
For more information, call 954-345-2200.
Remember to Recycle Right. Garbage and other non-
recyclable items mixed in with your blue recycled cart can
contaminate the load. A recent study found that Coral Springs
recyclables are contaminated with 17 percent garbage. Foam
cartons, trays, and plastic bags are considered contaminants.
Corrugated cardboard is recyclable, but soiled pizza boxes are
not. Although paper towels, paper plates, and paper napkins
are paper, they are not considered recyclable, so toss those in
the garbage. Let’s work together to lower our contamination
rate. Put those non-recyclable items in the green cart where it
will be disposed of at a waste to energy plant and converted
to electricity. To learn more about Recycling Right, call
954-344-1196.
